Edward Watson and sister Ellen Hales were witnesses to the wedding.
Cause of death: Heart attack (recheck)
As of 1963, his farm was being worked by William Nickerson.

Carl W. Schmackpfeffer, aged 68 years, died Thursday at his home in Barre. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons and four daughters. He lived in Albion until he bought his Barre farm.

Carl William Gustave Schmackpfeffer, 68 years old, died Thursday at his home in Barre. Mr. Schmackpfeffer was born in Posen, Germany, January 13, 1854, and had resided in Orleans County for the past forty years. He was a member of the German Lutheran Church of Albion and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline Schmackpfeffer; two sons, Otto Schmackpfeffer of Barre, and Charles of Tonowanda; four daughters, Mrs. Lena Wahl of Rochester; Mrs. Emma Gardiewel(? hard to read paper copy. Check film again.) of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Bertha Bullmore of Albion; and Miss Anna Schmackpfeffer of Barre; also 14 grandchildren.
The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. W. J. Wilkenberg, of Brockport, officiating.

Karl arrived in New York on May 13 1882 with ship AMERICA, captain Hamelmann. Karl was one of 1331 passengers. Destination USA, Port of embarkation Bremen - USA Manifest ID# 36608, National Archives No other Schmackpfeffer was listed.
NOTE: ?? S ?? age 28, male, from Germany. Left Bremen Germany for New York City via Southampton, England on ship Oder. Destination USA. Arrived 27 May 1882. - Ancestry.com microfilm 452 List #706 I could not find this entry in the castlegarden.org site On further investigation, I believe that the 13 May 1882 arival on the America is the right one.
1882/1823 - He returned to Prussia to get his wife, and son Wilhelm son. This was probably Dec 1882 to Feb 1883.)
The S.S. Fulda, left Bremen, Germany, via Southampton, England, arrived in NYC 24 Mar 1883. Paul Schmidt read the name as Schmakenpfeffer and was unable to read the occupation. Castlegarden.org has the following
